New probiotic medications are proving effective at treating gram positive and negative bacteria and they can remove a good amount of the guesswork for the newbie.

As with all medication, try to avoid mixing it with other treatments and ensure background water parameters are stable within adequate range.

Fish Parasite Medications & Treatments

A weakened or sick fish will often succumb to parasitic infection if it isn't sufficiently treated in the short term.

Depending on the type of parasite, some treatments will be as short as a bath (dip) or as long as a week. There is a great deal of medications available and some are more effective than others for specific parasites.

Also, some medications are "reef safe" and thus can be safely used in your reef aquarium. Before using medication, ensure that all background water parameters are stable and within adequate range.

Reef Safe Remedies & Treatments

Treating maladies in a community reef aquarium has always been a challenge. Traditionally the fish had to be caught (stressful), removed to a new holding aquarium (stressful) and then treated while in isolation for a good number of weeks.

Reef safe medication works to avoid all that by being compatible with your invertebrates and liverock. Reef safe medications are typically weak in formulation and it is very important to match them correctly with the parasite in question.
